Three friends survive a childhood tragedy only to come together again when one of their daughters is murdered. Clint Eastwood's 'Mystic River' has Oscar quality. This film centered on love and revenge features David Boyle (Tim Robbins), Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn) and Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon). The film starts when the boys were young and David Boyle is abducted off the street of his Boston neighborhood in front of his two friends. Days later he escapes child molesters but it haunts him into his future. As we flash forward, David (Tim Robbins) is married to Celeste (Marcia Gay Harden) and he has a young son. Jimmy (Sean Penn) has eclipsed a troubled history. After serving prison time, he dealt with the death of his first wife. Raising their five year-old daughter Katie motivated him to shape up. Now re-married with two more children, Jimmy's love for 19-year-old Katie is strong. The third boy, Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon), is now a cop. He and his partner (Laurence Fishburne) contact Jimmy after Katie is found murdered. Shattered, Jimmy vows to find the killer on his own, which later becomes his undoing. Great acting permeates this class film from Clint Eastwood. |
