(Runs through January 4th) A trip to the Martin City at Metcalf Theatre this holiday season will entertain and delight children and adults alike. The screwball story by Jeanne Beechwood and Dan Hall has been fashioned into an operetta. Jeff Bahan provides lyrics set to musical themes borrowed from some of the classics.
The second part of the show is always a delight. This annual Holiday vaudeville review includes a mix of music and jokes.
A reindeer shares some North Pole riddles, prison inmate Martha Steawart (played by Beechwood) offers tips for entertaining holiday guests, and the musical selections with plenty of satire include a group of singing fowl ("Duck The Halls"). The highlight for me was the water glass symphony as pianist Nancy Chipchase joins the cast to clink precisely filled water glasses to the tune of songs like "Silver Bells." The theatre is located at 9601 Metcalf Ave (In the Metcalf Mall). Call 913-642-7576 for more information. Enjoy a teat for the whole family
