| Runs through April 15, 2007
If you like a big Broadway Musical with only two actors and one set, which is a beautiful bedroom, then come to "I DO, I Do!" The theme of the show is a lovely valentine celebrating fifty years of marriage. It is a depiction of love and its struggles throught comedy, music and dancing.
The wife, Agnes performed by Farah Alvin was brought back to New Theatre Restaurant after being Fanny Brice in 2004's "Funny Girl". Her delivery of songs are heartfelt and well done. She teams up with Michael, the husband acted by Todd Gearhart. This is his first time at the New Theatre Restaurant but I am sure will be invited back with all his talent. The two actors voices blend well.
You will remember one famous song on the radio and records is "My Cup Runneth Over" by Ed Ames. In all there are 21 songs to delight you in this musical.
The two writers of "I Do, I Do!" are Tom Jones (book and lyrics) and Harvey Schmidt (music). It is based on "The Fourposters" by Jan de Hartog. It orginally opened on Broadway, December 5, 1966 and produced by David Merrick and starring Mary Martin and Robert Preston.
Jones and Schmidt won an Obie Award and a 1992 special Tony Award for "The Fantasticks". In 1999 they were inducted into Broadway Hall of Fame at the Gershwin Theatre.
Now for the dining: The meal can be defined as the best of the best in Kansas City restaurants. As usual there are many choices on the buffet to please everyone.
