The Coterie Theatre ('Twas Night Before Christmas)
Reviewed on 2004-12-07
(Runs through December 30) This play tells the story of the creation of one of childhood's favorite poem that has become as much a holiday classic as A Christmas Carol. Moore wrote the poem for the entertainment of his children on Christmas Eve, 1822, but never meant for it to be published. A house guest (Harriet Butler in the play) sent a copy to her local paper in Troy, New York and the rest is history. Not until 1844, when Moore published a book of his poems, did A Visit from St. Nicholas appear under his name.

This play is delightful for young and old and captures the magic of children anticipating a visit from St. Nick. Clement Cark Moore's house is not quiet as a mouse - in fact everyone is stirring! The true story behind America's most popular holiday poem is revealed by the Coterie. Their tree and furnishings on stage are true to the time period. Come and join the excitement this exciting Christmas eve.

For show times and other information call the Coterie at 816-474-6552 or go to the web www.thecoterie.com. The theatre is located on the ground floor of Crown Center.
