Martin City Melodrama - Summer Silents
Reviewed on 2004-07-29
(Martin City at Metcalf playhouse, 9601 Metcalf) Summer Silents: A Tribute to Silent Films (Runs through August 8th) Join Jeanne Beechwood, founder, producer and artistic director for this fun show.

She got the idea from TV where they were showing silent films on Sunday nights. Much preparation was undertaken including attending a concert by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, a silent-film-music revival ensemble, the Buster Keaton festival in Iola, and a silent film festival in Topeka.

The finished product is great. Many silent film stars are imitated including Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Snub Pollard, Senett's Keystone Kops, and other characters from the silent era. Authentic silent-movie organ music will be heard along with an arsenal of sound effects. Some of the players are Jon Copeland, Ellen Badger, Tim Cormack and Sammy Denzin. Enjoy a night out with the silents of yesteryear.
