Coterie Theatre (After Juliet)
Reviewed on 2004-01-27
(Runs through Feb 22)
Will the Capulets and Montagues choose peace or war? Set during the tense aftermath of the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, the Capulets and Montagues continue to feud, though the families are persuaded to respect a truce. Benvolio, Romeo's best friend, is in love with Rosaline, Juliet's cousin, but Rosaline is bent on revenge. Convinced that there should be fighting, she raids Juliet's tomb to take the only swords available. Valentine, Mercutio's brother, does the same so the Montagues will be able to defend themselves. The families must choose between peace and war. This modern verse play was a hit in London for the Royal National Theatre. In a significant co-production with Kansas City's Heart of American Shakespeare Festival, this is the first production of this new play in the United States. You can always count on top entertainment for all ages at the Coterie. For tickets, call 816-474-6552. The Coterie is located on the ground floor of Crown Center.
