Angelina Jolie plays a sheltered socialite living in London who follows her love interest around the world. Clive Owen plays the humanitarian doctor who heads for troubled spots where help is needed. Set against the backdrop of the world's most dangerous hot spots, the film spans the far corners of the earth in a journey that takes us to remote locations. The story begins when Sarah Jordan (Angelina Jolie), living a pampered life in 1984 England, has her world turned upside down when Dr. Nick Callahan (Clive Owen) crashes a fundraising ball and delivers a fiery plea on behalf of the children under his care in Africa. Attracted to Nick and his cause, Sarah leaves the comforts of London for the harsh realities of Africa, Cambodia and Chechnya. Thus the film opens our eyes to some of the roughest and most needy areas in need of humanitarian help. Against all this, we follow the love story.
