Get ready for Christmas early this year. If you are not ready, then Fred Claus will definitely get your spirit ready. This film offers a comical look into Saint Nicholas and his sibling rivalry with his brother Fred. From birth it shows how Fred always felt excluded by his parents due to Nicholas’ kind and giving nature. Fred eventually flees home after feeling he has not met his parent’s expectations and is tired of being in Nicholas’ shadow. That is until it comes to something Fred needs or wants, then he turns to his brother, now better known as Santa.

fred-claus Vince Vaughn is Fred, who travels to the North Pole after his brother offers him money to come and help him at his workshop. Upon his return, he is reunited with his brother, where you immediately notice the tension between them. Paul Giamati is Nicholas, the sweet natured brother, who is determined to help Fred out, despite the regrets he may have later. After Fred begins work, there becomes a danger that may cause the shop to be shut down and when Christmas draws nearer that danger intensifies.

This film was a wonderful surprise. Children of all ages can enjoy this film full of holiday spirit. Vince Vaughn in a PG13 role was not something I was expecting, but he manages to pull it off wonderfully. His comical act was ingenious and age appropriate. The special effects were miraculous. The scenes when Fred is arriving at the North Pole and there is an aerial scan of the small town were magnificent. All of Santa’s helpers were hilarious and completed this film. A true Christmas classic to take the whole family to and enjoy. Put up your tree in anticipation of this film and get in the spirit, because this film will definitely cause you too.
