Of course a movie with Will Ferrell & Jon Heder is bound to be funny, but this movie was so much more! In the opening you see two skaters. Both so very different and are very strong competitors, especially against each other. Ferrell portrays Chazz Michael Michaels who labels himself as “Sex on Ice” skating in chaps and Heder portrays Jimmy MacElroy who skates to Mozart and wears sequins. Early on we see the conflict with the two, which builds to a boiling point when both win gold and have a scuffle on the podium, causing a chaotic scene, which in turn bans them both from men’s figure skating.

After the MacElroy’s former coach catches a glimpse on the 6 o’clock news of another scuffle between Michaels & MacElroy he sees potential. Their fight scene looks more like a routine from pair’s figure skating. Pairing these two up is a challenge, which becomes the interesting part. Not only do Chazz & Jimmy have to win over the skating committee and the crowd, but they have to deal with the VanWaldenberg’s. These two are determined not to let them get anywhere near the gold medal and will do whatever it takes to make sure that does not happen.

How do you put fire & ice together and get gold? It takes a lot of work and in the midst of all the great one liners you have a solid comedy. With the target audience being younger adults I was concerned as to whether or not it would be appropriate and I think overall it is. Other than a few homosexual stereotypes mentioned they managed to keep this film pretty clean. The acting in it is superb. Every other second I was laughing and found it hard to stop.
