Reno 911!: Miami showcases a dim collection of police officers from the Reno Police Department in Reno, NV who get invited to a national law enforcement convention in Miami. The choice of Miami as the film’s primary location help set the stage for laughs as the Reno officers are like fish-out-of-water in the fast paced metropolis. Upon arriving at the convention, Lt. Dangle (Thomas Lennon) learns that there was a glitch in the reservation and they are forced to stay in a seedy hotel away from the convention center. As the Reno team arrives late to the first day of the conference they find that there was a terrorist bio attack and every single police officer is quarantined inside the building. This leaves the Reno police officers to take care of Miami’s crime problems.

Reno 911!: Miami is based off the Comedy Central show Reno 911!, but you don’t have to have prior knowledge of the characters to enjoy this movie. Anything that needs to be established about these characters can be figured out within a minute into the film. Lt. Dangle is a prime example- he wears a ridiculously tight and scandalous uniform, has highlights in his hair (occasionally sporting a bandana), and he’s armed. What more must I say? Officer Raineesha Williams (Niecy Nash) wears too much makeup and serves an extra dish of attitude with every scene. She’s the no-nonsense, in your face, and a little bit spicy kind of woman. Deputy Clementine Johnson (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is a little out-there with her unique brand of sexiness. But there’s more to Clemmie than a big pair….of guns. The cast is phenomenally dense in a way that keeps you begging for more mishaps.

The story unfolds as scene after scene the Reno police officers dig themselves a hole of trouble, bury themselves and then claw out alive just to start digging again in the next scene. The off-the-wall comments had some audience members rolling in the aisles as others cringed at the disgusting situations that the cast got themselves involved in. Reno 911!: Miami takes the reality show Cops one step further and creates some amazingly funny situations in the process. If you are already a fan of the TV series and can handle a little vulgarity and slapstick this is a must-see movie. If you have never seen the TV series, don’t hesitate at the box office. You’ll appreciate the comic genius of writers, Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, & Kerri Kenney-Silver.
