Owen Wilson is a talented man. Usually involved in comedies, or
action films with comedy elements, he has also received good
notices for a dramatic role or two. He did a great job voicing
Lightning McQueen in "Cars." I may be in the minority, but I do
not like his brand of comedy. My favorite Owen Wilson film:
"Shanghai Noon."
"You, Me & Dupree" is an Owen Wilson vehicle. The whole film
revolves around his character. Dupree serves as best man for
Matt Dillon. Soon after the honeymoon he moves in with the
couple. This slowly causes issues for wife Kate Hudson. Except
for three or four scenes the script gives Hudson nothing to do
but look pretty. We all know that Michael Douglas can play
charming, or slime. As Hudson's possessive father he gets to
play charming slime.
With Dupree disrupting his home life while Douglas unrelentingly
yanks his chain at work, Dillon's character slowly goes nuts.
Then Dupree must save him.
Fortunately I went to see "You, Me & Dupree" with a fair sized
group. Since I didn't care much for the film I took a poll. My
wife liked it quite a bit. Our daughter and her husband enjoyed
it. His parents did too. Another couple, ages between us and the
kids, also liked it. I am definitely out voted! Your chances of
enjoying "You, Me & Dupree" really depend on how much you like
Owen Wilson.
