This epic directed by Ridley Scott runs 2 hours 25 minutes, a little long but the battle scenes are spectacular. During the Crusades, when Jerusalem was at peace for almost one hundred year, this epic begins to takes place. Balian (Orlando Bloom) a young blacksmith has lost his family and nearly his faith. The religious wars were raging in far-off Holy Land. Amid all the pageantry and intrigue of medieval Jerusalem, he falls in love, grows into a leader and uses all his courage to defend the city under staggering odds.
Destiny comes in as a great knight, meeting his father Godfrey of Ibelin (Liam Neeson). His father shows him the true meaning of knighthood and takes him across continents fighting for the true faith and peace. Due to greed and jealousy, all this is about to end. Godfrey passes his sword to his son as well as the sacred oath to protect the helpless at all costs so that the kingdom of heaven can flourish on earth. Young Balian takes the sword and the rest is history. The other cast members are Eva Green, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. Many twists and turns occur along the way in the film as it spins its story. If you love these historical battle epics, then this film should appeal to you.
