Dickey Roberts was once a popular child star. Now a 35-year-old parking valet, he is ready to do anything. Convinced he can rise to fame again, he auditions for a part in a family film to be directed by Rob Reiner. When Reiner explains because of his former life in the spotlight, he isn't normal enough for a family part. Determined to win the part, Dickey pays a family to take him in to learn about normal family life. This very funny experience also leads to a close bond with the new family.
