This is by far the best of the Benji films, with appeal to both adults and kids alike. Colby is the likable kid played by Nick Whitaker. The original Benji came out in 1974. The new Benji is an adorable female mixed breed terrier that shares the screen with a dog called Lizard Tongue who provides the canine comedy along with a talkative guard bird. Colby has a "Little Rascals" type clubhouse near his home where the pet bird keep an eye out for intruders. The other human stars are Colby's parents, two goofy dogcatchers, and a friendly dog-loving elderly man who lives nearby.

The story has Colby rescuing Benji from his cruel father who wants to desert him since he is not pure black like his mother and the rest of the litter. Colby and Benji in turn rescue the mother who is over bred and becomes sickly. Lizard tongue joins in the fun as he eludes the bumbling dogcatchers and befriends Benji. The show is complete with great comedy, a touching story, and wonderful camera work that capture the dogs' expressions that say a thousand words. What a wonderful show with interest to all ages. Don't miss it.
