| Thunderbirds is a live-action film based on the hit British television series of the 1960's directed by Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes. Set in 2010, the family/action-adventure stars Bill Paxton as father, Jeff Tracy, Anthony Edwards as Brains Hackenbacker, gadget guy, Sophia Myles, as the ravishing Lady Penelopy Creighton-Ward, and Ben Kingsley, the Tracy family nemesis The Hood.
When dangerous situations exceed the limitations of ordinary military and international security forces, the world calls upon the high-tech assistance of International Rescue-a mysterious band of fearless heroes and their fleet of specially engineered vehicles known as: Thunderbirds!
Hidden from the world, Tracy Island, situated in the South Pacific, is home to brilliant entrepreneur and former astronaut Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton) and his five sons. It is also the headquarters of Tracy's top-secret organization, International Rescue -and it is under siege. Master criminal the Hood (Ben Kingsley) has breached security, and attempts to steal the rocket fleet. It seems he was left behind in one of the Tracy family rescues and now has a vendeta against them. He plans to take over the island, steal the fleet and use it to rob banks and discredit the heroic family.
The Hood has initial success trapping most of the family in a space station, but youngest son Alan (Brady Corbet) and his pals Tin-Tin (Vanessa Anne Huydgens) and Fermat (Soren Fultin) are still on the family island. Will the young kids succeed in saving their trapped family, retake the isaland, and foil the Hood and his gang from their evil deeds? Stay tuned.
Kids at the screening I attended loved the film and adults found it quite interesting. It reminded me of the "Spy Kids" movies. One thing for sure, it is a real winner for kids and adults alike.
