| This highly anticipated thriller from M. Knight Shyamalan ("Signs," "The Sixth Sense") was top dog at the box-office the first week out with over $40 million in sales. Evil creatures prowl the thick woods surrounding the quaint village of Covington. They wear red cloaks and have wicked looking claws and seem to have something growing out of their backs. Uggh! How disgusting.
We are propelled back to the 19th century and meet an interesting cast of characters. John Hurt, Joaquin Phoenix, Bryce Howard, Sigourney Weaver, Adrian Brody and others. The village elders led by Edward Walker (William Hurt) discourage any trips outside the village. Some don't listen. Edward Walder's daughter Ivy (Bryce Howard) is a blind, strong-willed girl who gets involved in a love triangle. Yes, she is Ron Howard's daughter and does a good job in this first starring role.
The music is wonderful and you will enjoy a romantic story as well as a thriller. Look out for twists and turns throughout the film.
