| My hat is off to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Antonio Fuqua for an exciting tale about the Knights of the Roundtable and one man's destiny to become king. Return to the post-Roman era in Britain, where Arthur (Clive Owen) and his "knights" - Lancelot (Ioan Gruffudd), Bors (Ray Winstone), Galahad (Hugh Dancy) and more - were forced into service by Rome at age 15 for a 15-year tour of duty and stationed in England. As the band of 7 Knights nears the end of their duty, they are given one last assignment, a risky mission, to rescue a Roman family from an advancing army of Saxons.
Clive Owen is an excellent actor and makes a great Arthur. (He is rumored to be the next James Bond). Keira Knightley is Guinevere, a beautiful and masterful warrior woman. Ray Winstone is "Bors" who looks amazingly like "Curley" from the Three Stooges and proves a masterful warrior and lover (as proven by his dozen illegitimate children and current honey). I loved the ambience of snow falling as they evacuate and prepare for battle.
Arthur unites the small band of Romans and Britons to make a stand in a pivotal battle that would decide the future of Britain. The Battle of Badon Hill was ferocious and bloody as the massed forces of Saxons funneled down from the North, and Arthur leading the knights and The Samatians (Britons Tribes) fought back. Great battle scenes emerged without unnecessary gore. This film is a real winner and showed the closeness among the small band of knights. This is a real winner. |
