This Hitchcock like French film taking place during World War II buildup is excellent. The story builds around a few bottles of heavy water that a physics professor (Jean-Marc Stehle) and his determined student (gorgeous Virginie Ledoyen) are trying to smuggle out of France to help develop the A-bomb In England.

Drawn into the mix is a novelist (Gregori Derangere) who is on the lam for helping vain movie star (Isabelle Adjani) escape a murder. As the Nazis push further into France, you get the feel of Casablanca with everyone rushing to safer parts of France. Gerard Depardieu struggles to balance his role with the government and pleasing his movie star vain mistress.

Peter Coyote is a German spy hot on the trail of our heroes, rushing across country to meet the English boats and save the prize chemical. Director Jean-Paul Rappeneau pleases the audiences with this amiable World War II espionage thriller. Catch it at the Tivoli Theatre in Westport Manor Square.
