| Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, and Sean Bean star in this epic adventure with a cast of thousands. The digital work is superb with the huge battle scenes looking very realistic. A flyover shot in which the camera looks down as a wave of Greeks breaks into the line of Troy's defenders is spectacular. The story begins in ancient Greece, when the passion of two legendary lovers - Paris, Prince of Troy (Orlando Bloom) and Helen (Diane Kruger), Queen of Sparta - ignites a war that will be devastating. When Paris steals Helen away from her husband, King Menelaus(Brendan Gleeson), it is an insult that bears revenge. his brother, Agamemnon(Brian Cox), powerful King of the Mycenaeans, initiates an invasion uniting all the massive tribes of Greece, partly for the insult, but probably more for his search for power, as he seeks control of Troy to solidify the supremacy of his vast empire. The walled city, under the leadership of King Priam (Peter O'Toole) and defended by mighty Prince Hector (Eric Bana), is a fortress no other army has been able to breach. One man stands tall in this battle, Achilles (Brad Pitt), believed to be the greatest warrior alive. Brad Pitt trained long and hard to achieve the Greek god look and appears extremely pumped-up and handsome. He fights on the side of the Greeks against Troy. His first one on one battle is handled so efficiently, it is over in a flash, leaving the audience stunned. The film could have been shortened somewhat as it became somewhat tedious. However it should do well as movies of this scope and magnitude don't come along very often. |
