ANOTHER TALENTED DIRECTOR HITS KANSAS CITY - James Slocum!

On the road to Lake Tahoe, a stressed out bank executive (Dana Ashbrook) meets a woman (Tisha Campbell-Martin) who forever changes his life. Shot in the spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains, this funny, moving film is about food, passion, love and a one-eared dog. Other cast members include Billy Dee Williams, Phyllis Diller, Mitchell Anderson, Zoey Drake, Matt Farnsworth and Brock Peters.

"The Last Place On Earth" is making its US Theatrical premiere in Kansas City at the Glenwood Arts Theater Friday, May 14. The director, James Slocum, will be on hand Friday and Saturday to answer questions after the showings (Fri show times 7:15 and 9:30; Sat. show times 2:00, 7:15, and 9:30).

In an interview prior to opening, James expressed his pride in a film with many unique elements: great actors, spectacular scenery, excellent soundtrack and a moving story.

James grew up in Minneapolis and now resides in Southern California. This is where he found his way into the beautiful area around Lake Tahoe including Mount Whitney, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Crystal Crag peaks in Sierra Nevada and Natural Mineral Springs in Mammoth, California. The eastern side of the mountain range is more dramatic than the Western side and less people are around. No one has ever shot a movie there before but it is a fantastic setting.

In short, James explained, "This is a story about survival". The film was shot in 2001 over a 6-week period. Then came a year and a half on the Festival circuit. Then Panorama Entertainment picked them up. This film was part of the H2H film festival in Kansas City and Brian with Glenwood Arts was impressed with the audience reaction. He expressed a desire to hold the premier showing and James gladly took him up on it. So now it is here…go and see it. Support a great film with heart. Next up for James is perhaps an action film, television work, possibly a documentary on Aids in Africa he would love to make.

Good luck to James, an up and coming quality director.
