After an undercover agent witnesses the murder of his wife and family, our hero (Thomas Jane) vows to punish the Mob boss (John Travolta) and his gang. Jonathan Hensleigh directs the film, which stars Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Will Patton, Laura Harring and Samantha Mathis. Thomas Jane is Frank Castle, direct from Marvel Comics. Cast as an FBI agent, he goes up against the empire of Howard Saint (Travolta), a rich underworld mobster. Castle holes up in a seedy apartment with some interesting neighbors who offer some romantic and comedic moments. Ben Foster and Terry Loughlin are two goofy but loyal neighbors. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is a good neighbor who helps "Castle" and provides some romantic interest. This has a comic book spirit as the Punisher with his black Skull shirt goes up against a slew of villains and ends up on top. The violence should have been tamed down a little in my opinion. Hellboy had violence but was kept in check. The constant drinking by the Punisher was unnecessary. Will Patton is excellent as Saint's chief henchman and Travolta does a good job as the evil Howard Saint. Good first try, hopefully the sequel will be a little less violent.
