After fast paced, over the top action in Part One, Kill Bill 2 offers a great blend of action, compelling story and excellent acting. The stars of this offering are Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Gordon Liu and Michael Parks directed by Quentin Tarantino. The bride continues her quest to wipe out the members of the deadly viper squad who left her for dead in the wedding chapel massacre. Clever use of flashbacks illustrates current happenings in the movie. Talented co-star David Carradine is excellent as Bill in a role that demonstrates his human as well as his ruthless side. When asked why he massacred everyone at the wedding site, he calmly replied, "I overreacted" to which Uma exclaimed: "You Overreacted!" Part 2 explains why The Bride wants to kill Bill and Budd and Elle. Some excellent sequences show an impossible escape by Uma when buried alive, dandy fights in a close quarter trailer between the Bride and Budd (Michael Madsen) and one-eyed Elle (Daryl Hannah) Eventually, we're left with the final showdown between Bill and The Bride. Carradine portrays Bill as a calm and charming killer who could just as easily kiss this woman or kill her. He gives Vol. 2 a real dignity. We feel for him as he explains his dilemma. The music is compelling, the cinematography is great and effective use of both color and black and white is used. You can see many things taken from the old Kung Fu and other cult films. Tarantino's eclectic and splashy musical cues include spaghetti Western themes for scenes of samurai-type action. There are spoofs of Chinese martial arts movies, with obligatory training sequences, complete with whiplash zoom shots and special color to match the way these films looked in the '70's. Don't miss the end credits, which cover both movies and show all the characters. There is a black and white outtake after all the credits that will catch your eyeballs.
