| This film is based on a true story of Aileen Wuornos, who was executed by the state of Florida after 12 years on death row. She was known as the first female serial killer with 6 murders charged to her. Her story has resulted in 3 movies and several books. Charlize Theron is a front-runner for an Oscar for her amazing portrayal and physical resemblance to Aileen. She struts, and puts on the rough demeanor of the killer. Childhood abuse and neglect and a society that shut her out may have triggered this deadly response. You can hardly recognize the beautiful actress in this role. Christina Ricci plays her friend. Monster is a heart-breaking study of a victim and one who is victimized. This character makes a desperate stab at love and life but falls victim to her obsessive desires and killing. It was hard for me to watch with the violence and frequent use of four letter words, but the performance is outstanding.
The Academy goes for this type of actress who disfigures herself. (Remember the nose job Nicole Kidman did for one of her performances).
