| If you are looking for an instant hit that will have you enthralled start to finish then “Looper” is for you. Set in the future of year 2072 the mob is taking over and time travel has been invented. The travel machine is being used for the sole purpose of getting rid of someone thirty years in the pass. They are abducted in the future, tied up and sent back thirty years. Once their future self arrives a looper is waiting for them and executes them. Once they are killed the body is disposed of and it is as if they never existed.
Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is enjoying his life and seems to have no qualms about being an assassin. His concerns only seem to grow when several loopers loops are being closed. When a loop is closed the looper executes their future self and is paid a lump sum amount in gold. Quickly the amount of loops being closed are many. Joe knows his time is coming. Before his loop is closed his friend Seth (Paul Dano) goes to Joe for help. Seth tells Joe that a new bossman from the future known as the Rainmaker is sending all the loops back to be closed. Seth made a decision not to close his loop and is now on the run looking for help.
Joe knows his time is quickly approaching and is in for a shock when his future self (Bruce Willis) arrives. Joe is willing to close his loop, but his future self is unwilling to let that happen. Future Joe has returned in an effort to find who the Rainmaker is and ensure that they are eliminated from the future in the hopes of changing his outcome. Both Joe's will battle and once the Rainmaker is found things only get more complicated.
“Looper” is the best action/sci-fi film in years. Performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis were impeccable. Child actor Pierce Gagnon (Cid) was an amazing talent that will surely develop into a star. Writer/Director Rian Johnson did an amazing job at not overdoing the time travel and creating an intriguing film that can be enjoyed by the viewing audience. “Looper” has set the standards for film making this year and I find this one is going to be hard to top. Be sure to get your tickets today and enjoy the loop that will take you full circle.
