Being raised to become an assassin is hard, but being strong enough to stand up for what you believe in is even harder. In "Ninja Assassin" we follow the life of Raizo (Rain) who has been raised in an orphanage that transforms young boys and girls into ninjas. The orphanage uses many drills and techniques that will have these children growing into strong and brave adults. Despite offering a place for the children to live they are treated like slaves. In order to train them to deal with the pain they are constantly beaten, starved and locked up like dogs. Some of the children are even killed for their betrayal.

Deciding to no longer follow his leader he decides to flee to Ozunu clan and becomes a lone ninja helping protect those who face assassination from the Ozunu clan. Raizo has managed to stay in hiding and fight the clan from his side for some time until he meets Mika (Naomie Harris) an agent who has a peaked interest in the ninjas after finding a money trail that leads to several political murders. As her investigation intensifies it is apparent she is in danger and her attack is thwarted by Raizo who goes up against a member of his own clan to rescue her. As you can imagine the pair bond and go on the road together. Their safety lies in Raizo’s hands that seem more than willing to fight at every turn.

"Ninja Assassin" is definitely targeted to the male demographic with its use of extreme action and excess bloodshed. The performances were average and the plot was pretty much predetermined. I found a lot of the scenes to be rather disturbing and graphic. The martial arts sequences were intense and gratifying to watch. "Ninja Assassin" will not be enjoyed by all, specifically the female crowd who will feel assassinated by this action film.
